According to a Nigeria Poverty statistics, the poverty rate in Nigeria south-west of the country is 19.3 percent. That of the south-south of Nigeria is 25.2 percent. The statistics also revealed that the poverty level in the south-east is about 27.4 percent. In the north-center, the level of poverty is 42.6 percent. The official figures show that the poverty rate in Nigeria between 1980 and 2010 rose by 153.6 percent (or 62.76 percent if $1.25 USD/person/day 2005 PPP line is used).
